Man kills his girlfriend, then himself
It is alleged Hlupheka Maluleka waited near the house of Motsei Ruth Pilane for her to return from work on Friday evening. He then grabbed her by the throat and choked her to death.
The woman’s mother Mmadipetse Pilane said she was in the house preparing supper when she heard her daughter screaming for help. She opened the door to find and saw her daughter on the ground with the man on top of her choking her.
“I pleaded with him not to kill my youngest daughter and he just looked at me and continued choking her. I tried to scream but no one in the neighbourhood heard me. That is how he ended up killing my daughter – just in front of me.”
The police were then called but they couldn’t find the man. He was found hanging in his house the following day.
Police spokeswoman Captain Pelonomi Makau said: “An inquest docket was opened at Klipgat Police Station.”
Pilane said she believed the had been drinking alcohol because she found a half-empty bottle of liquor at the house corner the next day.”
She said that her daughter and Maluleka had lived together but because of recurring fighting her daughter ended up coming back home to stay with her mom and move on with her life. She said the man “never wanted to let go”, that he sent her daughter threatening sms’s and accused her of being promiscuous.
Maluleka’s family refused to be interviewed. The pair was buried in a joint ceremony on Saturday.
