High incidence of death during child birthThe number of mothers dying during child births at Gauteng hospitals remains high and drastic steps need to be taken to address the situation, provincial Health MEC Qedani Mahlangu said.
She said a total of 311 mothers died in Gauteng during child birth last year, representing a rate of 154 deaths per 100 000 live births. Click here to view page.
Let's stick with mammograms 23.11.2009
The United States Preventive Services Task Force has revised the breast screening guidelines, recommending mammograms for women 50 to 74, every other year. It says women and their doctors should discuss the benefits and risks of mammograms beginning at age 40, but that is no longer recommended.
The findings have unleashed a debate in the US with leading organizations such as the American Cancer Society challenging the guidelines.
Their Chief Medical Officer Dr Otis Brawley wrote in the Washington Post.
