High incidence of death during child birthThe number of mothers dying during child births at Gauteng hospitals remains high and drastic steps need to be taken to address the situation, provincial Health MEC Qedani Mahlangu said. She said a total of 311 mothers died in Gauteng during child birth last year, representing a rate of 154 deaths per 100 000 live births. Click here to view page. |

Health Minister promises responsible action on AIDS
- Speech by Health Minister  In a frank admission of the Mbeki government’s failure to address HIV/AIDS, Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi this week blamed “denialism” for the “shocking” increase in the death rate among South Africans.
